Stress Free Moving with Pets

by | Mar 24, 2022 | Blog

Moving is stressful enough without having to worry about your pets. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! This blog post will discuss some tips for stress-free moving with pets. You can make your move a breeze and keep your furry friends happy and safe by following these tips.

Try To Keep Them Busy With Toys And Treats

If you must travel a long way to get to your new home, look for pet-friendly accommodation. If you’re taking a long road trip with your pets, pack an overnight bag, so they don’t have to worry about anything. Please give them a tour and display their place in the house after settling down. If you’re moving, use their favorite toys to keep them calm during the trip. Keep treats to a minimum since too much indulgence might upset their stomachs.

Make Sure Your Pets ID Tag Is up to Date

When you’re transporting dogs, the situation is always risky. You may never know if they’ll inadvertently slip out of a door and run away in an unknown region where they’ll have no trouble getting lost. Local regulations require veterinarians to keep stray animals who come through their doors for one to three days before euthanizing them, giving you enough time to locate them by putting up posters near the clinic or driving looking for your missing furry companion. At least if someone finds your pet straying around without identification, there will be a phone number for you to call.

Check with Your Vet Has Any Ideas to Keep Your Pet Calm

Different pets tolerate traveling in different ways. Some animals get carsick, some can’t handle loud noises or are in close quarters with other animals, and others need a lot of water to pee. Ask your vet if they have any tips on making the journey easier for your pet. If you’re flying, most airlines will require that your pet is in an approved carrier that fits under the seat in front of you, and there may be additional fees associated with bringing them on board. Remember to make arrangements with a new veterinarian if you are moving too far away from your current vet.

Give Your Pets Time to Adjust

When transporting with pets, be patient and understanding. Don’t expect them to get acclimated to everything right away; this might take weeks or even months. It will be difficult for both of you, as adjustments will have to be made on both sides. Continue providing love and care while they adjust; eventually, things should return to normal.

Stick To a Routine with Your Pets

Sticking to a routine is beneficial throughout the whole moving process, whether you have dogs. Please take your pets out for potty breaks at least every two hours while you’re at home, and try not to leave them alone during that time. If they’ve been going outside regularly, they should only need to go once between these walks, resulting in fewer accidents inside their house or wherever else you may be staying temporarily while transferring into your new residence.

Make Your New Home Welcoming For Your Pets

When you move in, place their food and water dishes, a litter box (if necessary), and some of their toys. Make sure you don’t disrupt their feeding routine or the sort of food they’re used to eating. If there are other animals in the house, make careful that they’re gradually introduced and handled with care.

Enjoy your move with your furry friend

Following these suggestions should hopefully help you avoid any stressors when you’re moving, but be patient if things don’t go as planned. Pets can sense when their caretakers are worried and will do anything possible to alleviate that tension, even if it means misbehaving.
